Comprehensive Eye Exams Coconut Creek, FL

Comprehensive Eye Exams

With state-of-the-art equipment, including Topography, computerized Visual Field analyzer, Optomap Ultra-Wiidefield Retina Imaging, B-scan Ultrasound and more, our doctors provide a comprehensive examination and recommend quality vision solutions for your visual needs.

Regardless of your age, eye exams are essential for good general health, and it is imperative to have regular eye examinations. A comprehensive eye exam will include a series of tests that will assist your doctor in determining your prescription as well as evaluate the overall health of your eyes. Regular comprehensive eye examinations are essential to all, not only those with vision problems. In some cases, our Optometrists can detect various systemic and eye diseases prior to the patient experiencing any symptoms.

Upon arrival to our office, our welcoming and knowledgeable staff will guide you through several tests. These tests provide the doctors with a baseline and understanding of your visual status. Then you will meet one of our friendly Doctors and discuss any concerns you may have about your eyes. The Doctor will determine your best possible vision and new prescription, and then evaluate the health of external and internal structures of your eye.

At the conclusion of your exam, your Doctor will have put your mind at ease. He or she will have screened your eyes for conditions such as glaucoma, diabetes, and macular degeneration. Furthermore, your Doctor will discuss all findings with you so that you understand your treatment plan. This is the time where we encourage you to ask questions and address any concerns with your Doctor.

Computer Vision Coconut Creek, FL

Computer Vision

Computer Vision is a relatively new term within the optometry field and refers to eye problems associated with the prolonged use of computers and electronics that utilize a digital screen. Although it can be temporary, there are times when computer vision can strain the eyes to a degree that permanently affects your vision as well. An existing eye condition can worsen as the eyes try to focus and adjust to a computer screen, and precautions should be taken if you spend long hours in front of a computer screen.

If you have been experiencing blurry vision, dry eyes, eye strain, headaches, neck or back pain, try adjusting the lighting, posture, and the distance in front of your computer screen. If computer vision symptoms persist, call us to request an appointment, we will perform a full evaluation.

contact lenses Coconut Creek, FL

Contact Lens Fitting & Evaluation

Promenade Eye Care is equipped with the newest and latest brands in contact lenses. Our Doctors personally conduct each contact lens fitting and examination and have the ability to correct most prescriptions with contact lenses. Our friendly office staff provides training sessions for new wearers to ensure the lenses are worn and cared for correctly. We offer competitive pricing allowing our patients to purchase lenses at costs lower than those found on the internet.

Fitting:

  • The contact lens material, brand, power, base curve & diameter are calculated from these measurements.
  • A trial lens is given to be evaluated for centration, coverage, movement, & the vision it provides.
  • When both the patient and the doctor are satisfied with the vision, fit, & performance of the trial lens; a final contact lens prescription will be provided.  This process must be completed within 60 days.  This is important as the contact lens prescription is valid for one year.
  • Please remember to wear your contact lenses to your follow-up appointment (unless they are irritating you).
  • This is an essential part of the fitting process as it gives the patient an opportunity to trial the lens before making any purchase of lenses.  In addition, the follow-up appointment allows the Doctor to evaluate the lenses after worn for a longer period of time (insures proper fit).
  • Contact lenses often feel and fit differently after they are worn for hours. This is the reason for and importance of the follow-up appointment.
  • There are many different types of contact lenses and we will work together to find the best lens for you.
  • The contact lenses must be evaluated for vision, fit and compatibility of the areas of the eye it rests upon; on an annual basis.
  • Contact lenses are medical devices.  Contact lens prescriptions are regulated in a similar fashion to prescriptions for medications.  Scarring of the cornea could lead to permanent vision loss.  The above process reduces complications associated with contact lenses and is designed to protect the health of your eyes.
  • The extent of a contact lens prescription and when a contact lens prescription can safely and accurately be written shall be left to the professional judgment of the licensed practitioner in the State of Florida.

Multifocal, Bifocal, Monovision Contact Lenses

  • Appropriate for patients who require a different amount of correction at different distances:
    • Distance (street signs, TV, movies, etc)
    • Intermediate (computers, car dashboards, ~ arm’s length)
    • Near (reading, small print, near objects:  cell phones, etc)
  • The amount of magnification (power) required for near is greater than what is required for intermediate.  The power amount required for intermediate is greater than what is required for distance.
  • Progressive eyeglasses have an area designated for distance, intermediate and reading (seemless increase in magnification from top to bottom of the lens).
  • Contact Lens fittings for variable focal points are achieved by:
    • Finding the balance between clear distance vision and comfortable, clear & efficient near vision.
    • Therefore, this type of contact lens fitting often requires multiple contact lens follow-ups to train the brain to see “selectively”.

Diabetic Eye Care

Diabetic Retinopathy is a condition that occurs in individuals with uncontrolled or long standing diabetes. In the early stages of the disease, patients may be asymptomatic to changes that are occurring in the eye. Over time, these complications may become sight-threatening. Family physicians recommend diabetics have an eye examination, more specifically, a dilated fundus examination on an annual basis.

Digital Retina Imaging Coconut Creek, FL

Digital Retina Imaging

Using a digital camera system, our optometrists at Promenade Eye Care can clearly see and examine your retina, located at the back of your eye. This examination is critical to monitoring the health of your eye as well as to the early detection of many medical problems. The pictures generated through retinal imaging help us identify problems with your vision and can also help diagnose other medical conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol, or even brain tumors.

Digital retinal imaging is important because, often, vision or eye problems can develop with no clear symptoms. Subtle changes in your vision can be hard to detect and diseases such as macular degeneration, glaucoma, or retinal tears may only be visible through these images. Even in healthy eyes, retinal imaging is important as it allows us to track changes in your eyes over time so we can better predict and prepare for common issues that affect eyes as they age.

Macular Degeneration Coconut Creek, FL

Macular Degeneration

Macular degeneration is a deterioration of the central portion of the retina, the inside layer of the eye that records the images we see and sends them through the optic nerve from the eye to the brain for processing. The macula, or the center of the retina, is responsible for focusing central vision in the eye and controls our ability to see and process information.

Glaucoma Coconut Creek, FL

Glaucoma

Glaucoma occurs from damage to the eye’s optic nerve and can often lead to loss of vision and blindness. To detect glaucoma, our highly trained doctors will perform a proper screening to determine severity, examine the damage, and help you manage your glaucoma.

Early detection of glaucoma is crucial in preventing vision loss and blindness; the earlier the better. However, there is no official cure for glaucoma. There are several treatment methods that manage, slow down, or halt the process. Treatment for glaucoma will vary depending on the stage and severity for each individual patient.

Promenade Eye Care is fully equipped with up-to-date and technologically-advanced equipment allowing our Doctors to provide you with the best care possible. Our Doctors have obtained extensive training in order to diagnose, treat, and manage eye conditions such as cataracts, diabetes, glaucoma, and macular degeneration. We work closely with a team of Ophthalmologists to ensure that you can seek treatment as quickly as possible. The following list includes common conditions managed by our office on a routine basis:

CATARACTS EVALUATION
Although cataracts can occur in infants and young children, most cataracts are commonly seen in adults or seniors over the age of 55 as a result of a normal aging change. A cataract causes clouding of the lens and can interfere with your vision in numerous ways. DIABETIC RETINAL EVALUATION

GLAUCOMA EVALUATION
Glaucoma is known as a silent disease and many patients are unaware of the condition existing in their eyes. Unfortunately, glaucoma can cause permanent vision loss, therefore our best defence is early detection. Our Optometrists screen every patient during their comprehensive eye examination by checking their peripheral vision, measuring their eye pressure, and evaluating the optic nerve. If Glaucoma is suspected, the doctor will work with one of our referring Ophthalmologists and Glaucoma specialists for the best treatment and to prevent any progression of the disease.

MACULAR DEGENERATION
Macular degeneration is a progressive degenerative condition that affects the macula, the part of the retina that is vital in focusing and sharp vision. There are many risk factors for macular degeneration including age, high blood pressure, genetics, and even smoking. Our Optometrists ensure to screen for signs of this condition as well as educate each patient on preventative measures one must take to protect their eyes from macular degeneration.
